Surefire VS EOtech Dedicated Forend Light
Surefire VS EOtech Dedicated Forend Lights

Today we picked up the Surefire 623LM and the EOtech/Insight Technologies dedicated forend lights for the Mossberg 500 series shotguns.

Details on the Surefire.

200 Lumens of Output for 2 Hours
Virtually indestructible LED and TIR lens produce brilliant beam optimized for close- to medium range applications
Switches: Momentary-on pressure pad, constant-on rocker
Construction: High-strength aerospace aluminum with Mil-Spec anodizing; impact-resistant polymer; coated, tempered window
Includes high-energy 123A batteries with 10-year shelf life.

Details on EOtech.

120 lumens
Ambidextrous pressure pads
Hard Off / On switch
Constant on, momentary and strobe options.

Well the Surefire is a bit esthetically more appealing, on average it cost about $50.00 more and does surpass the EOtech in lumens…200 VS 120.

But the extra lumens are really all it has over the EOtech. The EOtech has an ambidextrous pressure switch which is a nice feature, it also has a strobe feature which Surefire doesn’t and they both feature on/off switches.

The on/off switch on the EOtech is different than the Surefire, it disables the light completely whereas the Surefire just keeps the light on constantly. Constant light from the EOtech is activated by the pressure switch.

Another nice feature of the EOtech is that it lacks a protruding light, so there no chance of it getting hung up on anything.

They both install the same way, takes about 10 minutes total. Another nice feature is the EOtech comes with a nifty wrench to help with the job.

They both feel very comfortable in my hand and I do have a tough time declaring a winner.

I guess in the end we will rate it like this.

Looks: Surefire

Installation: Tie

Price: EOtech

Lumens: Surefire

Durability: Tie

Features: EOtech

Score:

Surefire: 2
EOtech: 2

Looks like it's a tie. You really can't go wrong with either of them.
